$50K Bonus Goes Off At Canberra

Mossman gelding Travaldo (pictured as yearling) gave his big team of owners a huge thrill when he staved off several challengers to land a $50,000 Inglis Race Series Bonus at Thoroughbred Park Canberra today.

Having his second start, the Mark de Montfort trained TRAVALDO ($38,000 2009 Classic, 2g Mossman-Screen Jester, by Rory's Jester) recouped his purchase price and then some when winning the Glen Mia/St. Croix Racing Plates Inglis Bonus Series 2YO Handicap over 1000m, which followed a debut fourth at Randwick earlier in the month.

Travaldo was originally offered for sale by Torryburn Stud at the 2008 Inglis Australian Weanling and Breeding Stock Sale, where Graham Daley gave $22,000 for him.

Re-offered at Classic, Daley retained a share in the youngster and he celebrated today's win with a very happy group of owners.

"They are a group of really good people and the great thing is that quite a few of them have never raced a horse before, so this is a huge thrill," he said.

"You couldn't wish to race a horse with a better bunch of blokes and it's fantastic to win a bonus in the Inglis Series, which I think is a great concept."

It's not the first time Daley has tasted success with a Classic graduate, as he was also part of the ownership team in the $1M Golden Rose winner Court Command, a $120,000 graduate of the 2005 Classic Sale.

The 2010 Inglis Classic Sale will be held at Newmarket on January 24 and 25. The catalogue is now online and can be viewed HERE

Daley and de Montfort indicated Travaldo would now head to the $250,000 Inglis Nursery on December 19, which is the next race in the $2.6M Series for 2009 graduates.

2008 graduates get their next chance this Saturday, December 5, with a $100,000 Bonus on offer at Caulfield, for which nominations close tomorrow.
