Broad Investment At Inglis Premier Day One

A diverse buying bench purchased 112 yearlings for $10,581,000 on the opening day of the 2015 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale in Melbourne.

Buyers from Victoria snapped up over half the lots sold, but had healthy competition from interstate buyers (28 lots) and overseas guests (27 lots).

“It is very satisfying to see the diversity of buyers who assisted our Day One average to increase 20 per cent, and especially pleasing was a 33 per cent increase in median price,” commented Inglis Victorian Director, Peter Heagney.

“As we still have many quality yearlings to offer we are confident that the sale should continue to remain buoyant.

“Having said that, I have no doubt there will be good buying throughout the remainder of the sale,” Heagney added.

Topping the session early in the day was Lot 44, a classy Snitzel filly which sold for $560,000 to multiple Group 1-winning South African trainer Brett Crawford.

The Yallambee Stud offering was sold for only $10,000 less than the record price for a filly set at the 2006 edition of Inglis Premier. Yallambee Stud finished Day One as leading vendor having sold 10 Lots for $1,550,000.

The support from South African buyers continued throughout the day, including the purchase of Lot 67, a filly by hot freshman sire Foxwedge from Carlton Show. Bred and sold by Supreme Thoroughbreds, the filly sold to Champion South African trainer Joey Ramsden for $340,000.

Supreme Thoroughbreds averaged $186,667 for their three Lots sold, which in addition to Lot 67 were Lot 41 by Medaglia d’Oro from Bella Brocco sold to Gai Waterhouse, and Lot 53 by Reward For Effort from Bouchette sold to Aquanita Racing.

The four yearlings by Foxwedge that sold on Day One averaged $190,000, an incredible return on his 2012 service fee of $33,000. Other highly anticipated freshman sires represented on Day One of Inglis Premier included Sepoy ($165,000 avg), Pour Moi ($123,500), Smart Missile ($113,333) and Helmet ($85,000).

Hong Kong trainer Ricky Yiu leads the buyers’ table having spent $680,000 on three colts, by the sires Not A Single Doubt, Foxwedge and Sepoy. Cloud 9 Thoroughbreds bought five for $645,000, including $260,000 for the half-sister by Bel Esprit to Group 2 winner Arinosa from the Swettenham Stud draft.

Inglis’ Make-An-Offer Service is available for lots which passed-in on Day One at the Inglis Premier.

Day Two of the auction starts at the earlier time of 10:30am tomorrow with Lots 161 to 392 to be offered, including the Blue Riband Session that will cover Lots 221 to 273.

The remaining three days of the 2015 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale will be broadcast on Inglis Sale Day Live, plus Online Bidding and Make-An-Offer will again be available.
