Classic Figures Rise Across the Board

The top end of the market highlighted the final day of this year’s Classic Sale, with a new sale topper recorded among a host of yearlings to top the $100,000 mark as the sale recorded increases across all key indicators.

In all, 13 yearlings have topped the $100,000 mark over the past three days, including nine of those in today’s final session.

These were headed by Eliza Park’s Magnus filly from the Fantastic Light mare Coconut Mama, which fetched $170,000 to the bid of Blue Sky Thoroughbreds.

The filly (pictured) descends from Australia’s most famous modern day family, that of Denise’s Joy, with her second dam being the stakes placed Joie, a daughter of the Queensland Oaks winner and champion producer Joie Denise.

Fairview Park Stud’s Snitzel colt from the stakes winning Hello Pamela moved to the second highest price of the sale when knocked down for $135,000 later in the session.

Eleven different sires had progeny fetch six figures including first season sires Bernardini, Magnus and Excellent Art.

These sales helped today’s average top $35,000, bringing the overall sale average to just short of $34,000 and 3% up on last year’s figure.

The gross went through the $14million barrier late this afternoon, again a healthy increase on last year’s $12,693,500, while the median has also increased slightly to $26,000.

“It was a very good sale especially to increase the average and clear over 81 per cent with a catalogue of 60 more yearlings this year,” said Inglis Bloodstock Director Jonathan D’Arcy.

“Good types by first season sires were well received on the market and this sale has a good track record of producing future stars for young sires.”

“We look forward now to our Melbourne Premier Sale in a month’s time, where we’ll offer our best catalogue to date for that sale”

Horses passed in over the last three days are still for sale via the Inglis Make an Offer service.

Attention now heads south to Melbourne, with the 2011 Premier Yearling Sale to be held at Oaklands over four sessions from February 28 to March 3.
