Classic Plonk Winner

The Brett Cavanough stable pulled off a well orchestrated plunge as Bossdon City made an impressive winning debut at Rosehill today.

BOSSDON CITY ($50,000 2010 Classic, 2g Beautiful Crown-Midnight Secret) was put up at $11 when TAB Sportsbet opened its fixed odds betting on the race and was quickly into $7 and then $5 this morning.

The money proved spot on, with the gelding showing good early speed and then a nice turn of foot at the top of the straight to win well.

Last year’s Easter Sale topper GODSPEED ($1,875,000 2010 Easter, 2c Redoute’s Choice-Regrowth) also staged an eye-catching debut, when running on strongly to claim second after settling at the back of the field.

Cavanough secured Bossdon City out of the Wimmera Park Stud draft at last year’s Classic sale.

Beautiful Crown has been a great sire at Classic over the years, with his graduates including Group 1 Caulfield Guineas winner In Top Swing ($50,000 2002 Classic) and dual stakes winner Our Joan Of Arc ($15,000 2008 Classic).

Beautiful Crown has nine yearlings catalogued this year.

The 2011 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale will be held in Sydney from January 23-25.

Inglis graduates made a clean sweep of the juvenile races in Sydney and Melbourne today.

In the second event at Rosehill, HOLLYWEIRD ($140,000 2010 Premier, 2f Snitzel-Last Blaze) upset the apple cart for favourite punters when making it two wins in three starts. Trainer Gerald Ryan secured the filly out of the Arrowfield Stud draft.

At Flemington, HELPING HAND ($160,000 2010 Easter, 2f Fusaichi Pegasus-Generosa) showed good improvement from her debut to land the Beyond Better Plate. Sold by Princes Farm and raced by Patinack Farm, Helping Hand is a half-sister to Patinack’s Group 1 placed mare No Evidence Needed.
