Easter Bargains Shine

Emerging filly Response and consistent sprinter The Mikado underlined the fact you don’t need to spend a fortune to buy yourself a star performer from Easter with their respective stakes wins today.

The pair capped yet another wonderful day for Easter graduates, which included the Group 1 Guineas-Australian Cup double in Melbourne.

RESPONSE ($50,000 2008 Easter Session II, 3f Charge Forward-Live It Up) was thrown in the deep end last week and ran very well when fellow Easter II graduate Faint Perfume in the G2 Kewney and today she had no trouble disposing of the older mares in the Group 3 Matron Stakes.

Response was sold through Andrew and Lasca Bowcock’s Alanbridge Stud draft and is now the winner of two races in four starts for earnings just short of $200,000.

THE MIKADO ($25,000 Easter, 3c Danehill Dancer-Lirico) was an Inglis Race Series Bonus winner last season and broke through for his maiden stakes success when proving too good in the Strada Stakes at Randwick.

The Tim Martin trained colt is also now the winner of $200,000.

Earlier at Randwick, DE LIGHTNING RIDGE ($260,000 2007 Easter, 4m Tale Of The Cat-Nanny Maroon) landed her first stakes success when landing the Group 2 Challenge Stakes for the Joe Pride stable. It was the sixth career win for the daughter of former G1 placed mare Nanny Maroon.

The 2010 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale will be held in Sydney from April 6-8.

In other stakes results today, MASTER HARRY ($100,000 2009 Classic, 2c Magic Albert-Sri Lanka) kicked his career off in the best possible fashion when a dominant winner of the Listed Streets Ice Cream Stakes at Flemington.

Sold by Kanangra, the Peter Moody trained Master Harry is a grandson of the Widden Stakes winning Marscay mare Momentaire.
