Easter treats for international buyers

International buyers of Inglis yearlings celebrated a successful Easter weekend with Group 3 winners in South Africa and Singapore.

Arcetri Pink ($45,000 2012 Premier, 2f Rock Of Gibraltar-Arcetri) gave the indication of a very bright future when running away to a dominant two and half length victory in the Group 3 Pretty Polly Stakes (1100m) at Turffontein in South Africa on Saturday.

Bred by Hill Holme Lodge, Arcetri Park was sold from Millford Thoroughbreds’ draft at last year’s Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale to Heritage Bloodstock for $45,000.

By Rock Of Gibraltar from a daughter of Galileo, the Geoff Woodruff trained juvenile has now recorded two wins from her two career starts.

Bylong Park Thoroughbreds will offer a colt by Charge Forward from a half-sister to the dam of Arcetri Pink as Lot 536 at the upcoming 2013 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Two close relations to new Singapore Group 3 winner Stepitup will also be offered at next week’s Easter Yearling Sale.

Stepitup ($90,000 2011 Premier, 3g Hussonet-Ain’t Seen Nothin’) overcame a chequered passage in the straight at Kranji to claim the first leg of Singapore’s Three-Year-Old Challenge on Sunday afternoon, the Group 3 Three-Year-Old Sprint (1200m).

The S$250,000 win was elated trainer Sonny Yeoh’s first Group success since taking over from his brother Dr KC Yeoh last year.

“I am lost for words. I am too dazed to realise what is happening. He (Stepitup) showed he was above average from Day One, but I think it’s only two or three wins back that I started to think about the three-year-old series for a target for him,” Sonny said.

Sonny was very positive that the Australian-bred son of Hussonet will be better suited stepping up to the next two legs on Sunday 21 April and Friday 17 May.

“He will be even better over 1400m and 1600m. I used to think his small size was a handicap, but that’s the way he is. Small but with a big engine,” proclaimed Yeoh.

The previous three winners of the Singapore Three-Year-Old Sprint have all gone on the clean sweep the series by winning the remaining two legs; Group 2 Singapore Three-Year-Old Classic (1400m) and Group 1 Singapore Guineas (1600m).

Raced by the Tivic Stable, Stepitup is unlucky not to be undefeated in his six career starts with a luckless second placing in January the only blemish to his career which has netted S$292,800.

Arrowfield Pastoral and Planette Thoroughbred bred Stepitup, which was sold from Bellerive Stud’s draft for $90,000 at the 2011 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale.

Fairview Park Stud will offer a Fastnet Rock filly from a half-sister to Stepitup’s dam Aint’ Seen Nothin’ as Lot 53 at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale on 9, 10 and 11 April.

Stepitup’s female family also includes Golden Slipper winner Polar Success, which is represented by a colt by More Than Ready as Lot 262 in Twin Palms Stud’s draft at Easter.

Better Than Ever made a clean sweep of the 2011 Singapore Three-Year-Old Challenge and his yearling half-sister by Medaglia d’Oro will be offered as Lot 336 next week.
