Impressive Youngsters Point to Easter

Today’s impressive juvenile wins by Foxwedge and Golden Archer at Flemington underlined the type of graduates Easter consistently produces, in addition to a pointer to what buyers can expect at this year’s sale.

Both youngsters are Easter graduates and both have siblings entered for this year’s renewal, which will be held at Newmarket from April 5-7.

FOXWEDGE ($925,000 2010 Easter, 2c Fastnet Rock-Forest Native) put himself in the frame for this season’s juvenile riches when a dominant winner of the Clarry Conners Plate (1100m) at Warwick Farm.

Trainer John O’Shea has long held the view Foxwedge is an outstanding youngster and the Fastnet Rock colt looks like living up to it based on his two lengths win over Darley’s $600,000 Easter filly Anise.

Foxwedge was offered for sale by Luskin Park Stud and secured by De Burgh Equine on behalf of owner Ed Bateman, who also races Golden Slipper second favourite and fellow Easter graduate Satin Shoes.

Luskin Park Stud will offer a full-sister as LOT 248 at Easter.

GOLDEN ARCHER ($80,000 2010 Easter, 2c Rock Of Gibraltar-Viennetta) has been one of Melbourne’s most consistent two-year-olds this season and made it four wins in five starts in taking the Listed Streets Ice Cream Stakes.

This was his second black type win, following a hit and run mission to Tasmania last month and he has already earned connections nearly $250,000.

Sefton Park will offer a More Than Ready half sister to Golden Archer as LOT 108 at Easter. Viennetta (by Pins) was a top class racemare, winning five times up to Group 2 level and Golden Archer is her lone foal to race.
