Inglis Juveniles Gear Up For $500,000 On Saturday

The start of Inglis’ Select Yearling Sales Season for 2015 is only a few days away, but for graduates of last year’s sales Saturday promises to be a great stepping stone in their racetrack careers with $500,000 in Inglis Race Series prizemoney on the line.

Saturday sees the running of the Restricted Listed $250,000 Inglis Classic at Rosehill in Sydney and the Restricted Listed $250,000 Inglis Premier at Sandown in Melbourne.

The two black-type races form part of the $5 million Inglis Race Series Program for 2014 yearling sale graduates which concludes with the running of the 4YO Inglis Cup in September 2016, and includes a $50,000 trainer’s bonus for the most wins throughout the series.

The RL Inglis Classic is restricted to juveniles entered into the Inglis Race Series that were offered at the 2014 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale Summer Book or Winter Book.

Rod Northam trained Odessey Moon will try to match his debut victory in the RL $250,000 Inglis Nursery, but faces tough opposition from last start Canterbury winner Serenade from the Michael Moroney yard. 11 runners are set to line up in the 1200m race at 2:55pm on Saturday.

This year is the 18th annual running of the Inglis Classic, which has proven a great springboard for top gallopers such as Laurie’s Lottery (1998), Choisir (2002) and the most recent winner Peggy Jean (2014).

The RL Inglis Premier is restricted to two-year-olds paid up for the Inglis Race Series that were offered at the 2014 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale in Melbourne.

14 runners will face the starter at 3:55pm over 1000m at Sandown including Kris Lees’ dual winner Moment Of Music and Robbie Griffith’s well fancied first starter Deja Blue. Previous winners of the Inglis Premier include Snitzerland, which went on to finish second in the Golden Slipper that season.

In addition to the $250,0000 race prizemoney on offer, the winning trainer of both the Inglis Classic and Inglis Premier races will receive a set of Swarovski Optik EL 42 Swarovision binoculars valued at $3,000. The winning jockeys and the managing owners will also receive an exclusive piece of Antler Luggage valued at $544.
