Lonhro's Daughters Lead The Charge

Breednet - Mark Smith - Sunday, 13 February 2011

Between them Lonhro’s daughters Obsequious and Beaded have accumulated over $1 million from 20 starts and they took centre stage at Randwick and Caulfield on Saturday with a Group double.

Throw in the victory of the progressive mare Screen who made it 6 wins from 14 starts at Randwick and the stakes placings of Parables and Pinwheel then it was a day to savoir for Darley’s superstar stallion.

Three-year old filly Obsequious made an exciting return to racing with a two length score in the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes.

It was the second stakes success for the daughter of Lonhro who defeated Solar Charged and Decision Time in the San Domenico Stakes.

“Everything went to plan,” winning trainer Peter Snowden said. “We thought we’d be able to control the race, Kerrin [McEvoy] was positive early, dictated the speed to suit himself and she gave a good kick at the finish.”

Hugely talented filly Parables charged home from last to finish third.

Snowden indicated Obsequious will run in the $100,000 Fireball Quality over 1100m at Rosehill in a fortnight, while Parables will have her next start seven days later in the Group 2 Surround Stakes (1400m) at Warwick Farm.

Meanwhile the remarkably consistent mare Beaded took her record to nine wins from 17 starts with earnings of over $660,000 with a comfortable 1.5 length score in the Group 3 Hyderabad Race Club Handicap (1200m) at Caulfield.

Caught wide for the entire trip the 5yo mare earned her fourth stakes success.

Darley’s Melbourne foreman, Paul Snowden, said Beaded would be aimed for next month’s Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes in Adelaide in an effort to capture a hitherto elusive win at the highest level.

She finished third in last year’s All Aged Stakes (G1) and Winter Stakes (G1), as well as a close-up fourth in the Stradbroke Handicap (G1).

“She doesn’t know how to run a bad race,” Snowden said.

“She just keeps coming up every prep for us. We looked after her in the spring; she had a very hard winter. She went to Brisbane and wintered well up there.”

Lonhro now has eight stakes-winners to his name for the season which will please the consignors of the 13 yearlings catalogued for the upcoming Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale and 16 entered for the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
