Peggy Adds Championship Trophy To The Cabinet

Peggy Jean got the Group 1 events at The Championships off to a tremendous start on Saturday claiming the $1 million Gr.1 ATC Sires' Produce Stakes for two-year-olds to the roar of a huge syndicate of owners on course at Royal Randwick.

Saturday was another successful day for graduates of Inglis yearling sales with five stakes winners across Australia; Peggy Jean, Politeness, Girl in Flight, Tango's Daughter and Bring Something.

The 1400m Sires' was the feature event for juveniles on the weekend and a stunning jewel encrusted championship trophy was added to the cabinet of another Inglis client thanks to Peggy Jean.

Peggy Jean (Myboycharlie x Lady of Love) was having her first run back at Randwick since winning the Inglis Classic at the same track in January and the filly proved too tenacious for her opposition running away to an outstanding Sires’ victory over Scratch Me Lucky and Easter graduate Cornrow.

“I said to the Triple Crown Syndication boys, Chris and Michael Ward, that Peggy Jean wasn’t a Golden Slipper filly, she was more of a Sires and Champagne horse. So, we just aimed her towards that, and they’ve been terrific and the owners have been understanding,” said trainer Gerald Ryan.

Bred by Ascot Heath Pty Ltd, Peggy Jean was purchased by Triple Crown Syndications for $46,000 from the draft of Torrryburn Stud at the 2013 Inglis Sydney Classic Yearling Sale - Summer Book.

Peggy Jean has netted her connections $894,525 in her short career so far which has included two wins and three placings from five starts. The filly is raced by Triple Crown Syndications (Mgr: C H Ward) Mrs S M Lorraway, A G Smith, B F Rippingale, J M Saunders, Mrs G P Humberston, Forster Barnes Thoroughbreds (Mgr: D Forster), B G Taylor, P S Sharp, G A Edwards, Mrs J K Johnson, A & P Nicholls (Mgr: A Nicholls) & Ms V Johnson.

The Sires' follows the victory of Inglis graduate Mossfun in the first leg of Sydney's two-year-old Triple Crown seven days prior - the Gr.1 ATC Golden Slipper Stakes.

Both Peggy Jean and Mossfun have recorded victories in the $5 million Inglis Race Series this season: Mossfun won the $250,000 RL Inglis Nursery in December, while Peggy Jean won the $250,000 RL Inglis Classic in January.

The third and final leg of Sydney's two-year-old Triple Crown, the Gr.1 ATC Champagne Stakes, will be run on Saturday 26 April over 1600m. Previous winners of the Champagne Stakes include Inglis graduates Samantha Miss, Onemorenomore and Mentality.

“She [Peggy Jean] has class written all over her and gives me the impression she hasn’t reached that glass ceiling yet. She’s the horse to beat in the Champagne Stakes,” said jockey Nash Rawiller after Peggy Jean's victory in the Sires.

Other stakes winning Inglis graduates in Australia on Saturday were Politeness, Girl in Flight, Tango's Daughter and Bring Something.

Politeness (Street Sense x Berengaria) led home an Inglis quinella in the Gr.3 ATC PJ Bell Stakes over 1200m at Randwick. Trained by Robert Smerdon for owner Phil Sly, Politeness was purchased by Malua Bloodstock / Bahen Bloodstock from Sledmere Stud's draft at the 2012 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale for $115,000. The filly will either return to Randwick on 26 April or head to Adelaide for the Gr.1 SAJC Sportingbet Classic the same day.

Girl in Flight (Commands x Rossiya) won the Gr.3 SAJC Schweppervescence Stakes over 1800m at Morphettville. Sold by Swettenham Stud to Griffiths Training for $60,000 at the 2012 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale, Girl in Flight is headed towards to the Gr.1 SAJC Australasian Oaks on 26 April for trainer Robbie Griffiths and owners Mr R G Sayers, Mr B Baumann, Mr A J Doyle, Trojan Tiger, Janlynn Racing & Mr F A Giacco.

Tango's Daughter (Redoute's Choice x Tango Fire) won the Listed SAJC HC Nitschke Stakes over 1400m at Morphettville. A graduate of Bellerive Stud's draft from the 2012 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale, Tango's Daughter has won four of her eight career starts to date.

Bring Something (Sebring x Metellus) rounded out the quintet of Inglis stakes winners on Saturday taking out the Listed MRC Galilee Series Final Handicap over 2400m at Caulfield. A $30,000 purchase by trainer Ken Keys from Northern Lodge's draft at the 2012 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale, Bring Something has won $156,875 in prizemoney racing for his owner Mr L J Owens.

From Golden Slipper and Sires' Produce winning two-year-olds, Guineas and Derby conquering three-year-olds to dominators of the world’s most prestigious sprints and cups, you can change your life with a yearling from Inglis like Mossfun, Peggy Jean, Shamus Award, Polanski, Sterling City, Amber Sky or Fawkner.
