Plan Your Pinhook Success

22nd Apr 2015

The Inglis Australian Broodmare and Weanling Sale is the first opportunity for pinhookers to get their hands on weanlings to take through to the 2016 select yearling sales in Australasia.

Pinhookers from last year’s Inglis Weanling Sales achieved some tremendous results when selling their purchases in 2015, including Broadwater Farm, Scone, and Henley Park, New Zealand.

Mike and Kate Fleming’s Broadwater Farm recorded an outstanding result on a Choisir colt out of Rich Ransom that they purchased for $30,000 at the 2014 Inglis Australian Broodmare and Weanling Sale. Last month the colt was snapped up by the Hong Kong Jockey Club for $280,000 when offered as the last Lot (604) of the 2015 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale.

“We were looking for a good type to trade, by a proven sire, and that’s exactly what we found,” said Broadwater Farm’s Mike Fleming.

“I knew he was nice but didn’t expect such a great result, he just kept improving,” Fleming said.

The Hong Kong Jockey Club were also the yearling buyer of Lot 534 at the 2015 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, a colt from the first crop of Master Of Design out of Sparkling Symphony. The HKJC paid $210,000 for the colt a great result for New Zealand's Henley Park who pinhooked the youngster for $52,000 at the 2014 Inglis Australian Broodmare and Weanling Sale.

“We loved Master Of Design as a racehorse and as a type, and when we saw his first progeny at the sale we picked this colt as he had a lot of the sire about him,” said Henley Park’s Sarah Devcich.

“He was a lovely balanced and well-marked colt that grew very evenly all the way along, we just let him do his thing,” Devcich said.
