Premier Performers on Australia Day

Next month’s Melbourne Premier Sale was well and truly in the spotlight as Inglis graduates put themselves in the frame for a seventh Blue Diamond in 10 years today.

Elvstroem has an outstanding draft set for this year’s Premier and the Blue Gum Farm stallion added his latest stakes winner when INNOCENT GAMBLE ($150,000 2009 Premier, 2c Elvstroem-Innocent Baby) took out the Listed Blue Diamond Preview (C&G).

The Mark Riley trained colt is a full-brother to this season’s stakes winning Premier graduate Viking Legend.

Blue Gum Farm will offer a full-brother to Innocent Gamble as Lot 183 at Premier.

Highly promising filly SET FOR FAME ($75,000 2008 Premier, 3f Reset-Northpoint) returned with a dominant win in the Listed Kevin Hayes Stakes to complete a Premier stakes double at Caulfield.

Offered for sale by Fulmen Park, Set For Fame’s spring campaign ended after she bled following a slashing second in the G3 Thousand Guineas Prelude. Trainer Peter Moody has a host of options as he tries to make up for lost time this campaign, including the G1 Coolmore Classic.

Reset has seven yearlings catalogued for Premier.

Set For Fame is the eighth individual stakes winning Premier three-year-old this season. Others include the multiple winners Black Caviar, Carrara, Shamoline Warrior and G1 Caulfield Guineas winner Starspangledbanner.

Four times stakes winner and G1 placed Carrara ($200,000 2008 Premier, 3c Elvstroem-Crystal Sprite) resumed with a good second to Denman in the Listed Zeditave Stakes today.

Little Plains Stud have a full-brother to Carrara catalogued as Lot 71 at Premier.

In Sydney, boom colt BENETEAU ($1million 2009 Easter, 2c Redoute’s Choice-Slice Of Paradise) put himself in the Blue Diamond picture with a most impressive Randwick 1000m win.

Beneteau and Innocent Gamble were both big Blue Diamond firmers following their wins today. They head a strong team aiming to give Inglis graduates a hat trick in the Diamond, following Reward For Effort and Reaan.

In other Blue Diamond moves, Crystal Lily is now in favour after becoming the first stakes winner for her sire Stratum in the fillies Division of the Prelude.

Stratum is represented by 21 yearlings at Premier, which runs over four sessions from March 1-4.
