UAE Derby (Group 3)
MUSIR 3 c Redoute's Choice - Dizzy de Lago
Bred by Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum in Australia
MUSIR confirmed he is yet another star on the upgrade by leading Australian stallion Redoute's Choice when pulling off the UAE 2,000 Guineas and Derby double at Meydan on Saturday.
The colt failed to reach his A$1m reserve when led out unsold at A$900,000 (£546,281/€606,934) at the 2008 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, and consequently races for his breeder Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum.
Redoute's Choice served the 2009-10 southern hemisphere season at Arrowfield Stud for A$198,000 (£120,181/€133,525). The son of Danehill, who is responsible for 15 Group 1 winners including the brilliant fillies Miss Finland and Samantha Miss, will be represented in Europe by a handful of northern hemisphere-bred two-year-olds this season.
Musir is the first foal out of the Listed-placed Encosta De Lago mare Dizzy De Lago, a granddaughter of the 1980 Oaks third The Dancer. This is also the family of Racing Post Trophy runner-up Mack The Knife and leading young Japanese sire King Kamehameha.
