Sale's Happening

Sale Turf Club - Thursday 30, July 2015

It reads like a half-baked joke.

Where did you buy your racehorse? At Sale.

But the Sale Turf Club has been living up to its name.

Each of the past five Octobers, on Sale Cup Day, the racing club has auctioned off a promising yearling out of the Inglis sales to the highest on-course bidder.

The auction, conducted by an Inglis auctioneer, comes right after an Inglis-sponsored $100,000 race.

It’s a comprehensive Inglis effort.

On Sale Cup Day in 2012, a yearling by Caulfield Guineas-winning sire God’s Own was the top prize, knocked down for $20,000.

That horse became Somethinghappening, and he’s doing his bit to prove worthy of that price-tag.

Somethinghappening, now a four-year-old gelding, remained in Sale with trainer Ian Hutchins, and claimed two wins from his first preparation last spring.

The gelding claimed the third win of his career in today’s 1000m Inglis August Thoroughbred Sale BM64 Handicap at Sale.

Somethinghappening gathered up leader Valuable Star on the home turn before kicking away down the straight to score by two lengths.

The $10,500 winner’s cheque will push the gelding’s career prize money past $40,000.
