Sister to BMW winner set for Autumn

A number of important pedigree updates for the upcoming Inglis Melbourne Autumn Yearling Sale have unfolded since the catalogue went to print, none more so than last week's BMW winner Cedarberg.

Pat Carey has always known the potential staying capabilities of Cedarberg and the son of Helenus delivered last Saturday in the $2.25million Group 1 ATC BMW Stakes. That followed a string of encouraging performances in top grade during the spring and Carey is now eyeing off the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups later in the year.

Phoenix Broodmare Farm will offer a sister to Cedarberg (Helenus-Infrared) as Lot 35 in Inglis' upcoming Melbourne Autumn Yearling Sale.

Toolora Lodge will offer a half-brother to recent Moonee Valley winner and Group 3 placegetter Gail as Lot 4.

Emirates Park will offer an Al Samer half-brother to King Lionheart - who has won again in Saturday grade at Warwick Farm since the catalogue went to print - as Lot 85.

Obsidian Dragon has been in great form in South Australia, winning at Morphettville and placing at stakes level. Swettenham Stud will offer a sister to the daughter of Hidden Dragon as Lot 237 at Autumn.

Long regarded as the value sale in Australia, the 2011 renewal of the Inglis Melbourne Autumn Yearling Sale will be held at Oaklands on April 17 & 18.

At bargain prices, successful racehorses like Pompeii Ruler, Grand Journey, Status Symbol, Broadway Harmony, Orbit Express, She's Got Gears, Secret Flyer and Grand Britannia have graduated from the sale and this year's catalogue should ensure that success continues.

This year's catalogue of 469 yearlings includes yearlings by proven sires Bel Esprit, Bianconi, Choisir, Commands, Hussonet, Lonhro, Red Ransom, Reset and Rock Of Gibraltar, along with sizeable drafts by exciting young stallions Artie Schiller, Churchill Downs, Hard Spun, Nadeem, Purrealist and Written Tycoon.
