Stanley posts biggest win

Racing Network - Adrian Dunn - Saturday, 19 April 2014

BRENT Stanley posted his biggest success of his fledgling training career when Veuvelicious registered a soft win in today’s Fernhill Handicap at Randwick.

Veuvelicious, a $20,000 yearling, is part-owned by David Moodie who provided Stanley with his biggest success as a jockey - the 1996 Caulfield Cup on Arctic Scent.

Stanley is considering backing up Veuvelicious in next Saturday’s Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600 m) at Randwick.

“I can’t see why not, she is the right horse to back up,” Stanley said.

“I have a funny feeling she will be better next week.”

Veuvelicious, a drifter from $1.80 to $2.35 before firming to start $2.25, coasted to a three and a quarter length win from Careless, $5, with one and a quarter lengths to Goulidan, $7, third.

Damien Oliver predicted that Veuvelicious had the attributes of an Oaks filly.

Oliver, a long time friend of Stanley, described this daughter of Northern Meteor, as a “lovely filly with a lot of class”.

“I think she can develop into an Oaks filly in the spring,” Oliver declared.

Stanley said Veuvelicious had improved “a couple of lengths” from her eye-catching placing in the Ballieu Stakes at Rosehill earlier in the month.

“It’s a great feeling to know that I can prepare a horse against these caliber of horses and trainers,” he said.
