Average Climbs 28% in Melbourne

The 2010 Melbourne Autumn Yearling Sale opened with strong gains across the board at Oaklands today, highlighted by the average rising 28% on last year’s figure.

In all, 172 horses sold today for a gross of $2,195,600 at a clearance of almost 80%.

The session was topped by Darley’s Strategic colt from Martella, with the full-brother to Group 3 winner Desuetude being sold to Edwards Elkington Racing Victoria for $65,000.

A Zenno Rob Roy filly and Blevic colt also topped the $50,000 mark today.

“We are very pleased with that opening session result today,” Inglis Director Peter Heagney said.

“Horses that were well prepared and well presented sold extremely well and there was international competition from New Zealand, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore and Macau.

“In saying that, there was still some good buying and that will continue into tomorrow’s second session.”

Horses passed in during today’s session are still available for sale via the Inglis Make an Offerservice.

Tomorrow’s session begins from 10.30am and those not attending can watch the sale via Inglis Sale Day Live
