Book 2 wraps up successful Premier Yearling Sale

The Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale concluded with Book 2 today, wrapping up an encouraging week of trade at Oaklands.

Matt and Brodie Becker of Stockwell Thoroughbreds offered the day’s top lot – a Denman x Red Magnum colt – on behalf of the horse’s breeders Doug North and Andrew Margan.

Aquis Farm purchased the colt (lot 720, pictured) for $115,000.

It capped off a successful Premier sale for Stockwell, who sold 10 of their 11 offerings.

“This is a genuine sale,’’ Brodie Becker said.

“Inglis has done a great job in getting the buyers here. If you have got the right horse then people have got good money for it.’’

Shane McGrath from Aquis said of the colt: "He’s an outstanding type who we thought would not have been out of place in Book 1.

“He was very well presented, had clean X-Rays, clean scope and clean vet and I can’t wait to see him in six months with a saddle on his back.’’

Book 2 ended with an average of $35,795.

Book 1 results of the Premier Sale continue to increase, with the clearance rate climbing to 85% due to several late sales of passed in lots.

Robbie Griffiths and Peter Ford were again active in Book 2, purchasing a further five lots to take their overall Premier buys to 16, leaving them as leading buyer.

One of those was lot 409, a Reset x Rememba Howe colt from Merrivale Farm, which has been confirmed as the Inglis/Herald Sun Win A Share In A Racehorse competition graduate.

Competition winner Caitlin Smith will enjoy a free 10% share of the colt, for which Inglis will pay the bills for the first two years.

Buyers' attention now switches to the Australian Easter Yearling Sale at Riverside on April 9 and 10, for which 450 outstanding yearlings have been catalogued.
