Bright Start To The 2014 VOBIS Gold Yearling Sale

The first session of the VOBIS Gold Yearling Sale finished with an excellent clearance of 83% and a top price exceeding the highest price achieved in the inaugural sale last year.

Rosemont Stud sold Lot 14, a colt by Snitzel from the Group 2 winning mare Yakama to Lindsay Park Bloodstock to top the sale at $80,000.

This was closely followed by Swettenham Stud’s Host filly from Sparkling Symphony which sold as Lot 232 to successful Victorian owners Barrie and Midge Griffiths for $75,000.

Consistent Victorian sire Written Tycoon achieved the third top price lot with the colt from Danari, offered by Eliza Park as agent for Dorrington Farm, selling to Anthony Cavanagh for $70,000.

The demand for quality yearlings was maintained right to the end of the sale when four yearlings in the supplementary section offered by Lauriston Thoroughbred Farm averaged $36,750.

Victorian manager Peter Heagney commented at the conclusion of the first days selling ‘It was very pleasing to have such a healthy clearance and to see the quality yearlings selling to many of Victoria’s leading trainers. Vendors who were realistic with their expectations were well rewarded. The market is quite selective as it has been at all sales this year but quality yearlings will always be in demand.'

Horses passed in during today’s session are available for sale via the Inglis Make-An-Offer Service.’

The General Session of the sale commences at 11am tomorrow.
