Cavanough Feels The Love In Inglis Guineas

The Brett Cavanough trained filly Loved Up dominated the 16-strong field to win the $400,000 RL Inglis Guineas over 1400m on the Scone Race Club’s stand-alone Saturday meeting today.

Loved Up (Nicconi x Love’s Here) came from last at the turn and sped along the inside to win the Inglis Race Series’ richest contest, defeating the Gai Waterhouse-trained Group 3 winner Nayeli, and the Group 3-placed Heavens Above, which is trained by Tim Martin.

After running a close second at her last start during the Wagga Cup Carnival over 1200m, Cavanough was confident she’d had the right preparation for success in this race.

“We threw her in the Wagga Town Plate as a lead up to here, and after getting beaten a nose, she’s such a good doer we were really pleased,” said Cavanough.

The winning connections are hoping the filly can follow in the footsteps of previous Inglis Guineas winners Cosmic Endeavour and Sincero, which both went on to Group 1 success at the Brisbane Winter Carnival.

“We’re just thinking about whether we go to Queensland for the Tattersalls Tiara or what we do. There have been a couple of winners out of this race that have won Group Ones, including a Stradbroke, so it’s been in my mind all the time,” Cavanough added.

As with all winning trainers of Inglis Select Races, Cavanough takes home a set of Swarovski Optik EL 42 Swarovision binoculars. Antler Luggage was awarded to winning jockey Richard Bensley, and to the managing owner.

Loved Up was bred by Brent and Judy Hudson, and races for Mrs L E Cavanough, Mr A R Tait, Mr R G Tait, Mr S A Barker, Mr N M Tait, Mrs S D Tait, Mr M B Tait, Mr D Hush, Mrs A Hush, Mr S C Hush, Mrs J A Tait, Mr A J Tait, Mr G A Chapman and Mr G W Judd.

7 yearlings by Loved Up’s sire Nicconi are set to be offered at Inglis’ final select yearling sale for 2015, the Inglis HTBA Scone Yearling Sale at White Park from 10:30am tomorrow, Sunday 17 May.

All yearlings purchased at any of Inglis Select Yearling Sales this year are eligible to be entered into the $5 million Inglis Race Series. CLICK HERE to download the nomination form.
