Inglis Graduates Rock on Hot final day of Carnival

Hot Danish shed the tag of Australia’s best Group 1 maiden and followed Road To Rock in claiming an Inglis big race double at Randwick today.

HOT DANISH ($32,000 2005 Scone, 6m Nothin’ Leica Dane-Hot ‘N’ Breezy) has long been one of Australia’s best gallopers, having won four Group 2s, a Group 3 and another four Listed events.

But in seven previous Group 1 attempts, things just hadn’t fallen into place for the Les Bridge trained mare, with three seconds left on the scorecard.

Until today. Specifically set for this year’s All Aged Stakes, Hot Danish let loose with her customary turn of foot and defied all challengers. She now boasts 13 wins in 24 starts for earnings of $1.5million.

Her win is yet another timely reminder for buyers of the upcoming Scone Select Yearling Sale. She joins Small Minds as a Scone Group 1 winner in the past month, with Welkom Gold and Star Of Octagonal other stakes winners.

This year’s sale will be held over two days on May 13 and 16.

ROAD TO ROCK ($100,000 2006 Easter, 5h Encosta De Lago-Trewornan) made amends for his narrow defeat in last week’s Doncaster Mile when proving too classy in the G1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

The Anthony Cummings trained entire has built a wonderful affinity with Randwick this season, also winning the Group 1 George Main Stakes last spring, in addition to his placings in both the Epsom and Doncaster this term. Today’s win takes his earnings beyond the $1million mark.

The Queen Elizabeth and All Aged double makes it 22 Group 1 races won by Inglis graduates in Australia this season.

Earlier, HAPPY HIPPY ($32,000 2007 July Mixed, 3f Shamardal-Springburn) became the latest stakes winner for Patinack Farm when ousting Lonhro’s little sister Shannara in the Listed James H B Carr Stakes (1400m).

The filly was knocked down to Serene Lodge and prepared for sale by Edinglassie.

Happy Hippy’s dam Springburn (Soviet Lad) was later sold at the 2008 Inglis Australian Easter Broodmare Sale for $95,000.

DARIANA ($300,000 2008 Easter, 3f Redoute’s Choice-Beldarian) gave legendary trainer Bart Cummings another black type win when finishing too strongly for the boys in the Group 3 Frank Packer Plate.

The filly was prepared for sale by Coolmore Stud and knocked down to DGR Thoroughbred Services. It’s been a rapid rise through the grades for Dariana, who only made her race debut in January.
