More Gold On Offer In Melbourne

389 yearlings have been catalogued for the second Inglis Melbourne VOBIS Gold Yearling Sale, a 12% increase on last year’s inaugural offering. The 2014 auction will be held on 27 & 28 April at Oaklands.

The two day sale has again been split into a Select Session and General Session.

The Select Session has been boosted to 259 lots. All are Super VOBIS eligible yearlings and will be offered from 10am on Day One.

Day Two will follow with 130 Super VOBIS and non-Super VOBIS yearlings in the General Session from 11am. Supplementary entries can be made for the second day – entries close on Friday 11 April.

“There are so many benefits available for Super VOBIS and VOBIS Gold qualified yearlings and we are certainly looking forward to building on last year’s excellent foundation with this key sale,” said Inglis Melbourne Director Peter Heagney.

Buyers from last year’s VOBIS Gold Yearling Sale are already recording tremendous results at the two-year-old breeze up sales and on the racetrack.

Lyndhurst Farm paid $36,000 for a colt by Holy Roman Emperor from Rule the Waves at last year’s sale. Mark and Shelley Treweek then sold the colt for NZ$320,000 less than seven months later at a two-year-old breeze up sale.

Recent two-year-old Cranbourne winner Malaguerra (by Magnus) is a prime example of the triple treats on offer for VOBIS Gold horses. Normal first place prizemoney on the race was $10,500 but the juvenile collected three times that thanks to Super VOBIS and VOBIS Gold Bonuses when winning the two-year-old Maiden on 19 January.

Malaguerra’s hot sire Magnus is one of 109 sires represented in the 2014 Melbourne VOBIS Gold Yearling Sale catalogue. There are 14 yearlings by Magus amongst the 389 lots.

Other sires well represented include Written Tycoon Artie Schiller, Domesday, Reset, Statue Of Liberty, Reward For Effort, Turffontein, Strategic, Foreplay, Hard Spun and Purrealist.

Super VOBIS (Victorian Owners and Breeders Incentive Scheme) is an internationally recognised incentive scheme designed to reward owners and breeders who invest in Victorian bloodstock. With more than $18 million in bonuses available for Super VOBIS and VOBIS Gold qualified horses, connections have the chance to increase their hip pocket quickly with a large percentage of bonus races targeted at TAB country race meetings for two and three-year-old horses.
