Mudgee: Guineas Target For Eurekha Joh

Racing And Sports - Tony White - Thursday, 4 March 2010

Promising central districts three-year-old Eureka Joh is being aimed at the $770,000 Inglis Guineas at Scone on May 14.

An Inglis Classic Yearling Sale sale purchase in Sydney, Eureka Joh, by Johannesburg, has shown above average ability winning three of five starts including a double at Parkes and Scone on January 31 and February 20.The gelding is trained by Tracey Bartley at Mudgee.

Bartley, trainer of multiple group one winner Snipers Bullet, has liked Eureka Joh since he first entered his stables.

“He could have raced as a yearling, a ready made racehorse,” Bartley said.

“The only problem with him has been he hasn't grown which in some ways has been disappointing.

“He's got length like a good horse but no height.

“Anyway he's racing good and that's what matters. The motor is there.

“The plan is to look for a midweeker in Sydney over 1400 metres then get him ready for Scone.

“He's got speed but can relax in his races. I'm pretty confident he'll get a mile (1600m).”

Eureka Joh began his winning run this preparation second up at Parkes, leading throughout and just lasting before scoring a half length win at Scone when up in grade.
