Breednet - Tara Madgwick - Sunday, 7 February 2010

We know it was a Sale juvenile maiden over 1200 metres run on a very slow track on a Sunday, but when the winner is by Encosta de Lago, is trained by David Hayes and scores by seven we figure it’s worth a story.

The horse in question is two year-old colt Legalistic, who gave nothing else a chance when powering away to win as he pleased on debut.

A $245,000 purchase for Mark Pilkington Bloodstock from the Coolmore draft at the 2009 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Legalistic is the second foal and first winner for former brilliant racemare Legally Bay.

A daughter of top class sire Snippets, Legally Bay won the Group Three STC Sweet Embrace Stakes at two and gained Group One placings later in her career in the MVRC William Reid Stakes and MRC Oakleigh Plate.

Legally Bay has a yearling colt (pictured) by Lonhro that has been entered for the 2010 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale as Lot 222 with Makybe the vendor.

She has a Fastnet Rock filly foal to follow and was covered by Exceed and Excel last spring.
