Record Weanling Average At Great Southern Sale

224 weanlings have been sold at a record average price at the 2014 Inglis Great Southern Sale in Melbourne.

The record average price of $14,504 is 44 per cent up on 2013 and 61 per cent higher than the average recorded in 2012.

Adding to the success of this year’s sale is the super clearance rate of 88 per cent.

“To have a record average, an increase of 44 per cent on last year with an 88 percent clearance is obviously very satisfying for us. Importantly it reflects the confidence in the market and with so many pinhookers buying, augers well for the 2015 Yearling Sales. We had a strong diverse buying bench who were very competitive on the better lots which should encourage an even stronger catalogue next year," said Peter Heagney, Inglis Director.

Two colts from the first crop of Caulfield Guineas winner Helmet (by Exceed And Excel) provided the top prices on Monday. Basinghall Farm’s weanling from Take All of Me (Lot 242) sold for $100,000, while Yarran’s colt from Umoya (Lot 254) made $90,000 to the bid of Ascot Farm NZ.

Bruce and Maureen Harvey’s Ascot Farm finished as the leading individual buyer during the weanling section. The successful New Zealand pinhookers secured four weanlings for $280,000 at the sale.

11 stallions had weanlings sell for $50,000 or more at the Great Southern Sale; Foxwedge, Helmet, Sebring, Stratum, Stryker, Beneteau, I Am Invincible, Equiano, Moshe, Toorak Toff and Wanted.

108 Broodmares were sold at a clearance rate of 81 per cent following the weanling section this afternoon.

Mamahuhu (Lot 388) was the highest priced broodmare sold on Monday. The well related Flying Spur mare was sold in foal to Charge Forward by Glentree Thoroughbreds for $100,000.

Weanlings and Broodmares that passed-in on Day One and Two of the Great Southern Sale are available for private sale via the Inglis Make-An-Offer Service.

Tomorrow’s final day of the sale will begin at 10:00am, with the remaining broodmares, stallions, yearlings, unbroken stock, racing stock and supplementary entries to be offered.

Online Bidding and Inglis Sale Day Live will be available on Day Three.
