Smart Aussie Winner in South Africa

Breednet - Tara Madgwick - Wednesday, 21 July 2010

Well known South Africa owner breeder Lionel Cohen, of Sun Classique fame (pictured), tasted success at Durbanville on Tuesday with Rock of Gibraltar (IRE) filly Alinga, who bolted in to win by close to four lengths.

Carrying 60kg, the Mike Bass trained three year-old filly made it two wins from six starts when she cruised away to win the 2000 metre event as she pleased.

A modest $90,000 purchase from the Yarraman Park draft at the 2008 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Alinga was bred by Wilkes Thoroughbreds and is the third foal of Star of Broadway, a half-sister by Quest for Fame (GB) to Group One winners Naturalism and Crystal Palace, dam of current star Palacio de Cristal.

Rock of Gibraltar (IRE) has enjoyed success in South Africa with Group One winner Seventh Rock and more recently with the Irish bred filly Gibraltar Blue.
