Turbo King rules with explosive finishing kick

FANS of Happy Valley’s midweek race night have found a new star to follow over the next few months by the name of Turbo King.

Trained by Manfred Man, ridden by Brett Prebble and just the latest in a long line of successful heavy plunges this season, Turbo King (Pictured c/- HKJC) rocketed home from the near the tail of the 12-runner field to reward those who firmed his odds from5-2 to 11-10.

Victory in the featured Wayfoong Centenary Bowl, a Class 3 dash over 5f, was the second win from four starts for the son of Domesday and judging on his swift final sectional time - a full second better than thebest of his rivals – it won’t be his last.

It was also the second triumph of the evening for trainer Man who had earlier welcomed outsider Wonderful Gains (Tye Angland) to the winners’ arch for the first time in the Class 4 Morse Handicap.

Young Australian Angland is fast making a name for himself in Hong Kong; this was his seventh success since his first rides on October 10 and he has developed a particular affinity for the curves andcambers of Happy Valley.

Elsewhere, honours were pretty evenly spread throughout the rest of the card that was also notable for the first dead-heat of the season in the last race when the judge could not separate Mr Vigorous (Peter Ho/Ben So) and Sea Prince (John Moore/Eddy Lai).

British trainer Sean Woods recorded his fifth win of the campaign when Great Bauhinia, formerly Mister Dee Bee (Olivier Doleuze) when trained by Barry Hills last year, broke his duck at the tenth attempt in the Bank Street Handicap (Class 3 – 1,100m).

Resuming after a two meeting suspension incurred in Japan, Douglas Whyte wasted little time about getting among the winners and teamed with Dennis Yip for a brace via Super Galileo and Ho Ho Life.

Turbo King (Domesday-Alice's Magic) was purchased at the 2009 Inglis Sydney Classic Yearling Sale for $18,000
