Witness Sister A Class Act

Racing And Sports - Nathan Exelby - Saturday, 12 September 2009

She may never reach the stratospheric heights of her famous older half brother, but Sister Madly (pictured) confirmed herself as one of Australia's most valuable fillies when scoring an impressive win at Rosehill today.

The daughter of Redoute's Choice made her debut on the Kensington track earlier this month, where she caught the eye battling on strongly for third in very fast time after being forced to race wide throughout.

That race was won by Mossman's most expensive son Love Conquers All, with St Augustine (Anabaa) third.

Punters were quick to catch on to the merit of Sister Madly's effort in that race and after opening at $9 with fixed odds operators earlier this week, started a $4.40 chance in today's 1200m event before winning impressively.

Sister Madly is from the wonderful Bureaucracy mare Jade Tiara, who became famous for the feats of her Champion son Silent Witness (El Moxie), the Hong Kong idol who won 18 races and the equivalent of $A9.1million.

A dual winner of the G1 Hong Kong International Sprint, Silent Witness was also a Group 1 winner in Japan, with his final G1 tally being nine.

Sister Madly gives Jade Tiara the perfect record of five to race for five winners.

Like Silent Witness, Sister Madly was bred by Edinburgh Park's Ian Smith and offered for sale at Inglis' famous Newmarket complex in Sydney.

While Silent Witness was sold for $55,000 at the 2001 Classic Sale, Sister Madly was passed in at $775,000 at last year's Easter Sale, having failed to reach her $800,000 reserve.

She now races for Edinburgh Park and she will one day be a marquee broodmare for the Taree based operation.

But in the interim, she looks to possess the ability to win a good race, with trainer Anthony Cummings certain to target some of the black type filly races on offer in the coming weeks.

Yarraman Park sold a full brother to Sister Madly to Hong Kong based agent Apollo Ng for $275,000 at this year's Easter Sale.

Jade Tiara is now among the Patinack Farm broodmare band and last year produced a filly by Encosta De Lago.
