Zabeel Filly Makes $1.3M

Rich Hill's much talked about Zabeel filly lived up to the hype when Victoria's Lakeview Resources went to $1.3million to secure her at Newmarket this afternoon.

By Zabeel from the Defensive Play mare Gin Player, the filly (pictured) is a half-sister to dual Group 1 winner Zarita and recent Dubai G3 Al Quoz Sprint winner Joy And Fun.

The filly was sold by Rich Hill Stud on behalf of breeder Scott Williams.

Rich Hill’s John Thompson said he and Williams had arrived in Australia hoping to receive between six and seven hundred thousand dollars, but it soon became apparent she was going to be very keenly sought after.

“There’s such a big build up with a filly like this and she’s been hugely popular on the grounds, but you still have your doubts until the bids actually come, so it’s a fantastic result,” Thompson said.

“It’s a great result for Scotty and it’s Rich Hill’s first million dollar yearling, so it’s very satisfying and a huge thrill. She is just a lovely filly and I wish her new owners the best of luck with her.”

Peter Carrick has raced the likes of Group winner Kaphero under his Lakeview Resources banner and he regards this filly as a perfect fit for his broodmare band at Arcadia, near Nagambie.

He described her as "without doubt, the filly of the sale."

“Once you have your mind made up on what you want it doesn’t matter what you pay in the end. Whether this filly is successful in racing, she is going to be a classic broodmare,” he said.

“Lee Freedman introduced the horse to me. We have been looking for a serious broodmare page and this was just a stand out.”
