Pizarro Returns To Winning Form

May 2, 2024

Photo Credit: Trackside Photography A long break and move north proved a winning formula for Pizarro when he returned to the races at Ipswich on Wednesday. The 5YO All Too Hard gelding was transferred to the Tony Gollan stable at the beginning of the year after an unplaced preparation in Sydney during the spring. He was very well placed in a set weights class 3 on Wednesday over the 1200m, warranting his $1.60 starting price. He was coming off a trial win at Deagon a fortnight prior and leading Queensland jockey James Orman, who partnered him in the trial was full of confidence in running, despite the rail out +9m. Pizarro jumped on terms with the field from barrier 6 and settled mid-field off a solid tempo. He came off the bridle at the 500m when Orman put him in to the race and he showed good tenacity under the 60kg to attack the line, defeating his rivals by half a length. It was a well deserved victory for Pizarro who had been out of the winners circle for 620 days. "He will be better on the bigger tracks- you don't get much tighter than Ipswich with the rail out" Tony Gollan commented after the win "He's done a good job- he didn't win by a big margin but the confidence out of that will do him the world of good"Congratulations to his big team of owners Champion Thoroughbreds 1 syndicate, Greenwich Stud Pty Ltd, Mr D H Long, Mr G C Green, Mperezive Racing, Mr P A King, Mr P J Dunn, Mr D C Harrop, Mr Z H Davis, JackJ5 Racing, Mr D J Winnell, Mr A M S Lewis, Mr G Seto, 1 in 5 2020 Club, Mr J O'Mahoney, Tunbison Racing

Full Brother To Group 2 Winner Purchased At HTBA Sale

Apr 28, 2024

Lot 214 Dundeel x Hannah In A Hurry Colt Purchased for $60,000 + GST from the Inglis HTBA SaleThe Dundeel colt bred by Segenhoe Stud and sold through Fernrigg Farm was a colt we thought oozed quality. He has got a very masculine head on him, nice and broad across the forehead and between the eyes, with a huge jowl on him. He paraded with swagger and an attitude like he was in full command of the situation which we love to see. His walk is a strong and efficient walk. Overall we thought he was very similar to our recent 3yo winner by the same sire, Dunedin, who is now 2 wins from 5 starts and just getting to his right distance and maturity. He has clean X-Rays and a Grade 1 scope which is very important. I think we will give him a nice break now up at Mt White and then let Daniel break him in before he eventually finds his way down to Danielle Seib’s stable. From a pedigree perspective, Dundeel needs no introduction having produced 3 new stakes winners in the past 4 weeks himself, and he is now known as a sire of sires having had Super Seth and Castelvecchio go to stud, and now Militarize. Our colt is out of More Than Ready mare Hannah In A Hurry who has thrown the 2yo Gr2 VRC Sires Produce winner (and a full brother to our colt) in Let’srollthedice – who also ran 3rd in the ATC Gr1 Sires Produce and 4th in the Gr1 Champagne Stakes all as a 2yo, and has subsequently trained on to win at Rosehill yesterday for Danny O’Brien over 1800m and has accumulated over $550,000 in prizemoney to date. When you look at the 7 generation pedigree of the colt you can also see that there is a double strain of the female influence La Mirambule who was the dam of In The Purple but also appears in the female line of More Than Ready himself. The Dundeel/More Than Ready cross has only been tried 3 times with colts for 3 winners including the stakes winning brother to our colt. King's Legacy Filly Snapped Up At Easter

Apr 8, 2024

We were thrilled to add another quality purchase to our 2024 crop of yearlings with the addition of a King's Legacy filly from the Inglis Easter sale this week. Purchased in conjunction with the Hayes brothers from Lindsay Park Racing, this precocious filly comes from a speed family, out of a well related winning Lonhro mare. Born on August 1st, 2022, this filly's pedigree is littered with early running stakes performers including Forensics, True Blonde, Regrowth, Colour, Derryn, Arabian Summer and Heuristic. Her half-brother Volatile (Snitzel) was a $550,000 yearling purchase for the Newgate/China Horse Club syndicate last year. He was excellent at his second career start in the Golden Gift when finishing third behind Shangri La Express and Rue De Royale. He is back in work and expected to feature over the Brisbane winter carnival. Artemis Rose produced an Exceed And Excel colt last season and is currently in foal to Extreme Choice so there is plenty of potential for this filly's pedigree in the future. We saw King's Legacy's first crop of yearlings at the sales this year and he has produced some outstanding types. The impeccably bred son of Redoute's Choice took out the Inglis Sires/Champagne Group 1 double as a 2YO and his progeny have proved very popular amongst buyers. This filly has a brilliant, willing attitude and looks a early-running type as per pedigree would suggest. In a competitive Inglis Easter market, she represents excellent value at $200,000. For more information, please contact Emma on 0404392680 or email racing@championthoroughbreds.com.auView her pedigree here:
