2005 Aust Broodmare Sale - Day 1<br>The Record Book Was Rewritten

2nd Apr 2005

The much anticipated Vinery Stud Dispersal produced stellar results today when three mares - Mannington, Snowdrift (Fr) and In the Past (GB) - smashed the previous record price for a broodmare sold at public auction in Australasia, established by former champion two year old Burst, which made $900,000 at the Newhaven Park Stud Dispersal in 1996.

Blue-blooded Mannington proved the real show-stopper, fetching $2,050,000 to the bid of Darley Australia after opening at $1million.

The Vinery Dispersal generated turnover of $19,059,000 with 87 mares selling at an average price of $219,069.

“We are delighted with the results and while it’s sad to see the mares go it’s also very satisfying and enjoyable to see them sell so well,” said Vinery Stud Manager, Peter Orton.

“The dispersals of Inverness, Boscobel and Vinery Studs, along with the reduction of Contract Racing, added enormous appeal to the 2005 Australian Broodmare Sale,” commented Reg Inglis Managing Director.

At today’s opening session 199 horses sold (99% clearance rate) for a total of $29,016,500 at an average price of $145,811.

Group One winning Hurricane Sky mare River Dove, was the star of the Contract Racing offering, fetching $800,000 to the bid of Cressfield Stud.
