2005 Australian Easter Yearling Sale - Day 1<br>$1.8 MILLION REDOUTE'S CHOICE COLT

28th Mar 2005

The Australian Easter Yearling Sale kicked off in spectacular fashion today with 173 yearlings generating gross turnover of $36,448,000 at an average price of $210,682.

“Last year’s sale set a very high standard, but we’ve seen today that several of these younger sires such as Redoute’s Choice are more than capable of filling the void left by Danehill,” said Inglis Managing Director, Reg Inglis.

Rising super sire Redoute’s Choice made the pace during the opening session with 15 of his progeny averaging $537,667, highlighted by an outstanding colt from the unraced Marauding mare Saucy Nell which made $1.8 million.

The top priced colt was knocked down to bloodstock agent Tim Stakemire acting for Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, who races a substantial team of horses in Australia.

The star colt was bred and prepared for sale by long time Easter vendors, the Kelly family of Newhaven Park.

“We’ve been selling at Easter since 1945 and this is our best result,” said a delighted John Kelly.
