2005 Australian Easter Yearling Sale - Day 3<br>$90 million in trade at record breaking Easter

The 2005 Australian Easter Yearling Sale concluded today when a further 174 yearlings were sold at Newmarket, bringing the overall gross for the three day sale to $90,528,000, up by some 20 % on last year’s record figure of $75,477,500.
The average rose marginally to $207,633, while the median showed a marked increase, climbing to $150,000, up by 20 % on last year.
“Given the increase in the number of yearlings catalogued, we always anticipated a rise in the aggregate, but to maintain the average and post such a substantial increase in the median are the hallmarks of an outstanding sale,” said Inglis Managing Director, Reg Inglis.
Arrowfield Stud based sire Redoute’s Choice was the undeniable star of the show, with 35 yearlings selling at an average price of $611,714.
His offspring accounted for $21,410,000 in total, highlighted by the record breaking three-quarter brother to dual Melbourne Cup winner Makybe Diva (GB), which set a new Australian mark at $2.5 million when knocked down to Woodlands Stud on Wednesday night.
“Redoute’s Choice sired six colts which sold for $1 million or more at this sale, a performance that surely places him among the very best sires in the world,” commented Reg Inglis.
Today’s top price of $1.4 million was posted late in the session when, Lot 597, from Arrowfield Stud as agent went to the bid of leading trainer Gerald Ryan. The racy bay colt is by Redoute’s Choice from the Mr Prospector mare Luanda (USA), a daughter of American Group Three winner Via Borghese.
First season sire Giant’s Causeway (USA) supplied the top priced filly of the sale in Lot 215 from Subterfuge (GB), offered by Coolmore as agent. The half-sister to Hong Kong Group One winner Scintillation and local Group Two winner Shania Dane made $800,000 to the bid of Adrian Nicoll of BBA, Ireland.
