2006 Australian Select Broodmare Sale - Day Two

23rd Apr 2006

The Australian Select Broodmare sale continued today at Newmarket with quality mares bringing big prices during a very solid day’s trade.

The unreserved dispersal on behalf of the receiver and managers of the Written Bloodstock Syndicate was undoubtedly one of the highlights, notably the multiple group-winning mare Our Egyptian Raine who fell to the bid of bloodstock agent Kieran Moore at $900,000.

“She’s a nice type,” said Moore, “She was a very genuine performer and a great racemare.”

Although buying on behalf of new European based clients, Moore indicated the mare would remain in Australia to foal the Good Journey she was sold carrying, then be covered by sire of the moment, Redoute’s Choice next season.

Offered by the same vendor was the three-time Group 1 winner Paraca who sold to South African agent Robin Bruss and his Northfields Bloodstock Sales Pty for $800,000.

Managing Director Reg Inglis commented “There has been good competition for mares at all levels of the market today”.

At the end of today’s second session the cumulative gross was running at $16,089,050 for 293 mares sold at an average of $54,911.43.

The sale concludes tomorrow, Anzac Day, with 278 lots due through the ring from 12 noon.
