Aggressive Boss in the Pink in Let's Elope

Triple Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Glen Boss's aggression has paved the way for Pinker Pinker to maintain her perfect second-up record in Saturday's Group II Let's Elope Stakes (1400m) at Flemington.

Boss was positive aboard Pinker Pinker from the outset, pushing the mare into a midfield position to preserve the advantage the mare's perfect barrier five draw provided.

Pinker Pinker travelled sweetly under Boss throughout the middle stages before the jockey had to push the tiring Keep The Peace out of the way at the 400 metres.

Once clear, Boss said he had a few anxious moments on Pinker Pinker before he drove the four-year-old daughter of Reset to the line three-quarters of a length ahead of the unlucky Mid Summer Music, who was caught behind a scrimmage at the 300 metres before rocketing home late.

The win was Pinker Pinker's third from three second-up attempts and her fifth from 13 starts overall.

"Having a look at her runs, I got it wrong today,” Boss said. "Looking at all her runs on video, she normally takes 100 then she starts to come to her top.

"I got out early on her to make sure she had plenty of clean air. She took me by surprise. She sprinted very quickly and I got left in front a long way from home.

"For her to hang on was very tough and genuine.”

Pinker Pinker's trainer Greg Eurell described Boss's ride as "cheeky” but praised the bravery of his charge after getting to the front early.

"It was a terrific effort, her first-up run was very, very good but the step up to the 1400 (metres) here was ideal,” Eurell said.

"She's very strong second-up but the only worrying part was the post seemed to take forever to get to her.”

Eurell said he would have no hesitation in backing up Pinker Pinker next Saturday in the Group II Stocks Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley.

The Peter Snowden-trained Parables settled in the second half of the field, three-deep with cover, before battling on well in the straight to finish third.
