American Racing Queen’s Cousin In Sydney Sale Catalogue

Azeri, the American Horse of the Year, three times champion race mare and record female money earner who sold to Japan for $2.25 million at the Keeneland, Kentucky sales this month, by a remarkable coincidence has a close relation in the Inglis Summer Sale to be held at their Newmarket stables, Randwick on Friday December 4.

Lot 2 in the catalogue, it is the 2005 foaled Canny Candy, an unraced mare bred on a cross of two Golden Slipper winners and distinguished sires. She is by Canny Lad (Star Kingdom male line) and from Frantastic, a daughter of Danzero (by Danehill).

Frantastic was one of the only two foals from the At Talaq mare Frantasia, a half-sister to the dams of Silic, an American Breeders' Cup Mile winner, and Azeri's Australian bred dam Zodiac Miss.

Believed to be carrying a positive to an October 27 service to the Redoute's Choice Sydney juvenile winner Dubai's Choice, her first use at stud, Canny Candy is one of a draft of 15 mares being offered as agent by Glenrae Thoroughbreds, Lower Belford near Singleton in the Hunter Valley which open the sale.

The other Glenrae mares include Mab's Quest, a 2004 Danzero from a mare by Encosta de Lago's sire Fairy King, and two by the Sadler's Wells sire Song of Tara. One of them, the 2005 produced Rose of Tara, is a three-quarter sister to Spirit of Tara, a winner of seven races and $805,600.

Glenrae's consignment are among 45 mares in the 102 lot catalogue, one to be supplemented by further entries. Two who appear worthy of places in quality broodmare bands are being offered through the agency of Umavale Thoroughbreds, Jerrys Plains. One, Tarho (2004), is a three-quarter sister by Danehill Dancer to German Group 3 winner Maranilla, and the other, Rose Artist (2002), is a half-sister by Redoute's Choice to Silent Impact, a winner of the Newcastle Gold Cup, Gosford Gold Cup, STC W.J. McKell Cup and Christmas Cup.

Both mares are tested in foal to Darley sires,Tarho being served by Dubawi on October 22 and Rose Artist by Lonhro on September 23.

Three packages in the broodmare section are Rififi (2001, Favorite Trick - Causette, by Bluebird) a Sydney winner with a Show a Heart colt at foot and a October 21 service by Emirates Park's new visiting sire Evesdropper; Dajeune (2003, Danewin - After Beune, by Jeune), colt at foot by Lion Heart and September service by Widden sire Snippetson; and En Pointe (2003, Carnegie - Nimble Feet, by Zoffany), colt at foot by Snippetson and served by another new Emirates Park sire, Mutawaajid (by Redoute's Choice) on September 4.

Besides those in the broodmare section, the catalogue includes 24 potential breeders under racehorses - fillies and mares. They include daughters of Exceed and Excel, Red Ransom, Song of Tara, Magic Albert, Hurricane Sky, Anabaa, Redoute's Choice, Dehere, Beautiful Crown, Arena, Commands and Danzero.
