Arrowfield plays integral part in International Easter market

12th Dec 2005

Sunday's Gr 1 Sha Tin Hong Kong Mile winner Hat Trick (Sunday Silence/Tricky Code) is yet another example of why Arrowfield Stud is widely regarded as a leader in showcasing Australian breeding to the world stage. The stud, under principal John Messara's visionary guidance, will offer a half brother to Hat Trick in the 2006 Australian Easter Yearling Sale .

William Inglis Director, Jonathan D'Arcy, who recently inspected the colt, said “ This is a very impressive individual, one of the stars of the Arrowfield draft for Easter. He has plenty of scope and looks like he will get to the races early'.

Yesterday's race made it consecutive Gr 1 victories for Hat Trick after he took out the Gr 1 Kyoto Mile Championship in his homeland three weeks earlier. He has now won 8 of his 13 career starts for earnings in excess of $3.5 million.

Hat Trick's yearling half-brother is by French Deputy, who was a resident stallion at Arrowfield during our spring. French Deputy is a magnificent individual built to suit Australian conditions, and is by Deputy Minister, a proven sire of sires in Australia, out of Mitterand, a Grade 1 winner by Hold Your Peace.

On the track French Deputy broke his maiden first time out at two over six furlongs in a blistering 1.08.84 and won four of six starts up to a mile by margins up to eleven lengths. He captured the G2 Jerome Handicap at Belmont Park in 1:33.53 defeating Gone West's successful sire son Mr Greeley by four lengths and was subsequently rated the fastest 3yo in the world in 1995 on his Beyer Speed Figures.

French Deputy commenced stud duties in 1997 in the USA and has already sired two world champions, those being Champion US older horse of 2002 Left Bank and top rated 2001 International Miler Kurofone who is now himself at stud. Kurofune has already made an impact at stud siring the winner of one of only two Gr 1 races for two-year-olds on the JRA circuit.

Substantial interest from Japan saw French Deputy relocate to there where he was an instant success, earning Champion First Season Sire honours in 2004.

Another offering for Arrowfield at the 2006 Easter Sale will be a half sister to Cesario (Special Week/Kirov Premiere) who earlier this year was sent abroad from Japan where she annihilated her opponents by four lengths in the Hollywood Park American Oaks Grade 1 (1 1/4 miles). The yearling filly is by Fusaichi Pegasus and is sure to heighten interest from the already curious American market.
