This month we are delighted to recognise the achievements of

COURT COMMAND

Breeding: 3yo Bay colt by Commands x Court House Lane, by Zoffany (USA)
Vendor: Broadwater Farm as agent
Owner: R C Kemister, K G O'Brien, B W Taylor, Mrs G N Treister, D E McEnearney, D J Driver, N C Wheeler, J H Knox
Trainer: Darren Smith

Lightly raced Commands colt Court Command has shown enough in his 4 career starts to indicate he will be a star of the future, thus being an undeniable recipient of this month’s prestigious award.

Stepping out in a Wyong Maiden back in April, a 2.3 length demolition of that field, after 2 very impressive trial wins, was enough to have trainer Darren Smith contemplating spring riches. Sending the 2005 Classic Sale graduate to the spelling paddocks, he returned from an 18 week spell to take on a class field of 3yo’s in the Gr 3 AJC San Domenico Stakes held at Randwick.

Although a huge rise in class from his initial outing, Court Command proved by finishing on the placegetters heels that a black type win was not too far away for the talented galloper. Lining up against a similar field at his very next start in the Gr 3 AJC Up And Coming Stakes, the talent that trainer Darren Smith knew existed in Court Command presented itself in the best possible way. Trouncing a high quality field of 3yo’s by 4 lengths easing up, it was evident that racegoers were witnessing a horse with definite above average ability.

Court Command’s next run was in the Gr 3 STC Golden Rose over 1400m, where he was sent out as one of the favoured runners based on his recent form. Doing what he does best Court Command jumped straight to the lead and was never headed, scoring once again in devastating fashion by 2.3 lengths. In his wake were Gr 1 winners Mentality and Excites, the multiple Gr 2 winner Gold Edition, as well as numerous potential top-line spring hopefuls such as Empires Choice, Luvuleo and Catechuchu.

Purchased from the 2005 Classic Sale draft of Craig Anderson’s Broadwater Farm, Court Command was one of the most admired horses on the complex, evident by the fact that he was the highest priced Commands sold at the sale. Executive Director of Bloodstock, Jonathan D’Arcy remembers how the journey of this exciting galloper began. “ From the time that we first saw him as a foal at Craig Anderson's property he was a standout in the paddock. His breeder Reg Kemister is a loyal supporter of Inglis and it is great to see a smaller breeder producing a top liner in Court Command. At the Classic Sale he was up high on everyone's shopping list and it was great to see a young trainer like Darren Smith win out on him in the end. The Classic Sale just keeps producing the goods and that is why we call it the trainer’s sale - trainers know they can buy good horses there!”

William Inglis & Son look forward to following the spring campaign of this exciting galloper, where hopefully he can follow in the foot steps of recent Golden Rose winners and take out the Gr 1 Caulfield Guineas. We wish all concerned with Court Command the best of luck for the upcoming spring carnival and his future racing career.
