Aussies On Top In Melbourne

Boxing Day is always a big day for sport and in Melbourne today it was the Aussies on top both at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and at Caulfield Racecourse.
Today’s feature event at Caulfield was the $120,000 Listed MRC Christmas Stakes over 1200m. The event was won by Australian bred and Inglis sold galloper Karacatis (Hussonet x One In A Million).
Karacatis was sent to the front on the rail by jockey Damian Lane and the Richard Jolly trained sprinter led his opposition a merry dance to claim the Christmas Stakes over Richie’s Vibe and Kneeling.
"The more they came to him the more he kept pulling out. It was a tough win" said Lane.
"Richard [Jolly] is a very good trainer and when he sends them over here, they are here for a reason," Lane added.
Jolly might not have left his South Australian base for today’s race, but is no doubt glad he made the interstate trip to Sydney three years ago to select Karacatis from the 2010 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
The second foal of Group 2 placed Redoute’s Choice mare One In A Million, Karacatis (pictured as a yearling) was purchased by Jolly for $120,000 from the draft of Amarina Farm (As agent for Coral View Lodge Stud) at the Easter Sale.
The five-year-old has recorded six wins and seven placings from 17 career starts for $283,650 in prizemoney.
Karacatis’ most recent stakes victory comes less than a fortnight after the Group 2 victory of $110,000 Easter buy Ninth Legion and $85,000 purchase Mossfun taking out the $250,000 Inglis Nursery. The trio are a great example of the quality available throughout the Easter catalogue.
The 2014 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale will be conducted over three days on 8, 9 & 10 April next year, just prior to ‘The Championships’ at Royal Randwick.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are set to be the royal guests of honour during ‘The Championships’, which includes the $4 million Queen Elizabeth Stakes,
