Black Caviar Relation Stars On Day One Of Melbourne August Thoroughbred Sale

15th Aug 2013

A relation to Black Caviar starred on the opening day of the 2013 Inglis Melbourne August Thoroughbred Sale where $897,900 was traded on 110 broodmares and stallions.

Offered by Eliza Park International as Lot 92 was Belleluia (Bel Esprit-Song of the Sun), a daughter of a three-quarter-sister to the outstanding producer Helsinge. After plenty of spirited bidding the close relation to Black Caviar was knocked down for $205,000 to an Ireland based client of Inglis’.

“It was pleasing to see that commercial broodmares are in good demand. We had a very diverse crowd of buyers from all over Australia as well as Korea, New Zealand and Ireland,” said Inglis Melbourne Director Peter Heagney.

“Today's results auger well for tomorrow's sale when we have some excellently credentialed young mares as well as some exciting racing prospects,” Heagney added.

Broodmares in foal to proven and exciting young sires were in good demand, as were well performed fillies and mares straight off the track.

Group 2 winner Press The Button’s dam Clouding Over was sold in foal to Sepoy for $85,000 to D Swain of Victoria. Stakes placed mares Bella Princess and Sean Baile Mor made $55,000 and $52,000 respectively.

Lots that passed-in during the auction on Thursday are available for purchase via the Inglis Make An Offer service.

Following today’s auction Inglis hosted a strongly attended Yearling Sale Preparation & Presentation Seminar. Attendee’s heard from leading industry personnel Peter Orton (Vinery Stud General Manager), Dr John Kohnke (Animal Nutritionist), Ian Church (Veterinarian at Flemington Equine) and Mike Moroney (Group 1 Trainer & Buyer).

Replay of the Yearling Sale Preparation & Presentation Seminar will be uploaded onto Inglis TV in the coming days.

A bumper second and final day of the Melbourne August Thoroughbred Sale will begin at the earlier time of 10:00am sharp.

258 lots (102-294 & 333-397), including new season yearlings, unbroken and racing stock, have been catalogued to be offered tomorrow, Friday 16 August.
