Black Caviar's little sister steps out in Flemington trial

Racenet - Darryl Sherer - Friday, 22 November 2013

Belle Couture, the three-year-old half-sister to the unbeaten Black Caviar, had her first taste of competition with a jumpout at Flemington on Friday morning.

Ridden by Damien Oliver, Belle Couture was a step slow to begin in the 800 metre trial, mustering speed to come through between horses and be second after halfway, staying on well for second, beaten around a half-length by an unidentified horse trained by Anthony Freedman.

Trainer Danny O’Brien was satisfied with the effort of the $2.6 million yearling.

"That was good, it was what I wanted. She should learn a bit out of it and improve so all very positive,” he said.

O’Brien said Belle Couture might have another trial next Friday or the following Friday before she heads to the races.

Simon Marshall of BC3 Thoroughbreds, who purchased Belle Couture as a yearling at the Inglis Australian Yearling sale in 2012 and then syndicated the daughter of Redoute’s Choice, was on hand with a group of owners and expressed himself ‘very happy’ with the effort.
