Up and coming trainer Bjorn Baker celebrated his first winner for high profile owner/breeder John Singleton when blue-blooded More Than Ready (USA) filly Killcareless broke the ice at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

Not beaten far at her first two starts, Killcareless had the benefit of race fitness, the addition of blinkers and champion jockey Nash Rawiller to ride for this 1300 metre assignment, so not surprisingly came out trumps.

She travelled sweetly up on the pace and fought on strongly to the line to win by a neck in class record time over well-bred debutante Wordplay, a half-sister by Fastnet Rock to last season’s outstanding three year-old Fiveandahalfstar, winner of the Group I VRC Victoria Derby and ATC The BMW.

Killcareless as a yearlingKillcareless as a yearling"The blinkers helped and Nash rode her really well,” said Bjorn Baker.

"She’s come a long way this prep and we’ll go home and have a thing about where to go with her next.”

Killcareless was a $250,000 purchase from the Makybe draft at the 2012 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale for Gai Waterhouse/James Harron Bloodstock and it’s a fairly safe bet that neither of them thought Bjorn Baker would be the one winning races with her.

Killcareless is the first foal of Climatic, a stakes-placed Fusaichi Pegasus (USA) mare from the family of Group I stars Redoute’s Choice, Manhattan Rain, Platinum Scissors, Al Maher, etc.

She’s bred in the purple, which explains why Makybe had to pay $1million for her dam Climatic as a yearling at Inglis Easter in 2007.

Climatic earned just $36,000 and change during her brief eight start career, which yielded two modest wins at Ballarat and Cheltenham, but may yet prove her worth in the breeding barn.

She produced a filly by Fastnet Rock last spring for Makybe and is due to foal this year to Golden Slipper winner Sepoy.

Runner-up Wordplay impressed greatly with her debut run and this Anthony Cummings trained filly will be winning her share of races, so keep on her tail.
