Broodmare Sale Off To A Healthy Start

22nd Apr 2006

Following the successful conclusion of the weanling sale, trade at the Easter Broodmare Sale got off to a healthy start at Newmarket this afternoon, with Belong To Me mare Lady Larissa bringing a final bid of $500,000 to top the session.

Consigned by Craig Anderson’s Broadwater Farm as agent, the four-year-old out of Last Tycoon mare Lady Capel was sold in foal to General Nediym to bloodstock agent Steve Brem.

Kicking off the broodmare session was a select offering of race fillies, headlined by the stakes-winning Hennessy mare Hennessy Waltz, consigned by Yarraman Park Stud as agent and bought by leading bloodstock agent Kieran Moore for $230,000. In the same category trainer Mick Price went to the same figure to secure Melbourne metropolitan winner Princess Isabella.

The first session of combined race fillies and broodmares yielded $3,418,050 for 71 lots sold at an average of $48,142.

Selling continues in earnest tomorrow at 10am.
