Danehill Dancer Mare Makes $260,000

14th Aug 2008

Group 1 placed Danehill Dancer mare Cancanelle topped the final day of the highly successful Inglis August Thoroughbred Sale when selling for $260,000 at Oaklands today.

Cancanelle, a late supplementary entry to the sale, was Group 1 placed as a three-year-old when second to Anamato in the Australasian Oaks (2000m).

A winner of four races and more than $250,000, Cancanelle (ex Richelle, by Century) was knocked down to Peter Ford Thoroughbreds, Victoria.

At the conclusion of the two-day sale, more than $4.5million had been traded on 345 lots at an excellent clearance rate of better than 92%.

Today’s trading saw 222 lots sold at a clearance rate of 97.4%.

It followed yesterday’s strong opening session, where the Danehill mare Danevade sold for a record $1,050,000.

“This was an exceptionally strong sale and certainly stronger than we could have anticipated,” Inglis Director Peter Heagney said.

“We had a brilliant response from vendors, which forced us to extend it over two days and that format has worked very well.

“This follows on from the success of the Great Southern Sale and it means vendors and buyers now have two great opportunities in Victoria to trade stock before the beginning of the breeding season.”

On-line bidding was again a highlight, with 29.5% of the lots through the ring attracting an on-line bid.

These included the well related Exceed And Excel-Miss Pennymoney (Brocco) colt Quantum Of Solace, which sold on-line to Dale Sutton for $150,000.

A strong overseas buying contingent was also active at the sale, with buyers from Indonesia, China, Singapore and the Philippines all active during the two days.

The next Inglis sale is the Scone Broodmare Sale, scheduled for Friday, August 29, with a catalogue of 190 assembled for the one day sale.
