Doc’s 3YOs Shine Early

Dr Edmund Bateman has been a big player at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale via his agent James Harron in recent years and his two big 2010 purchases Satin Shoes and Foxwedge returned to racing with a bang today.

Later, Group 2 Lawrence Stakes winner Whobegotyou ensured it was a sensational day for Inglis graduates in today’s major Caulfield and Rosehill races.

FOXWEDGE ($925,000 2010 Easter, 3c Fastnet Rock-Forest Native) led home an Easter quinella when he repelled the fast finishing ANISE ($600,000 2010 Easter, 3f General Nediym-Pimpinella) in the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes at Rosehill.

The John O’Shea trained colt mixed it with the best two-year-olds last season, finishing third to Smart Missile and Sepoy in the Group 2 Todman, but always looked like his best would come this season.

He sat just behind the speed today and had the 1100m race in his keeping a long way from home after easily reeling in Karuta Queen just before the 200m point. This was his first win at stakes level and O’Shea tipped more to come.

Anise's powerful finish indicated she too is set to give Team Darley another major spring player.

The Clarry Conners trained SATIN SHOES ($700,000 2010 Easter, 3f Flying Spur-Star Satire) was also among last year’s best juveniles, with wins including the Listed Widden and Group 2 Silver Slipper. She has returned to racing in the same form, taking the Listed Quezette Stakes. It takes her record to four wins in six starts.

Both Foxwedge and Satin Shoes were picked out of the sales by James Harron under the De Burgh Equine banner.

WHOBEGOTYOU ($19,500 2007 Classic, 6g Street Cry-Temple Of Peace) made it Group wins in each of the past four seasons when making a ripper return in the Group 2 Lawrence Stakes.

The win confirmed he is on target for a third tilt at the Cox Plate and he now boasts 10 wins in 28 starts for earnings of more than $3.2million.
