Encosta Filly Backed to Win Oaks

Breednet - Media Release - Wednesday, 3 November 2010

One of the three Encosta de Lago fillies engaged to run in the Group I VRC Oaks on Thursday has been heavily backed.

The Tim Martin trained Sasa has been backed into outright second favourite for the Oaks after a series of big bets were struck at Sportingbet Australia. Sasa ran an eye catching fifth in the Wakeful after being last on the turn and punters have backed her from $6.00 to $5.50 since Sunday.

“Sasa had been a $17 chance before the Wakeful run and we shortened her to $6.00 following but punters still stepped in,” said Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan.

“We have taken bets to win $20,000 and $10,000 since then and she is now a clear second favourite.

“It was an enormous run in the Wakeful and the 2500m of the Oaks looks like it will suit her perfectly.”

Brazilian Pulse remains the $3.40 favourite with Sportingbet ahead of Sasa at $5.50, Precious Lorraine at $7.00 and Placement at $8.50.

“Brazilian Pulse’s run in the Wakeful was enormous after being three wide the trip and she does deserve to be a clear favourite but she has been a little easy at this stage,” Sullivan said.
