Flying Day For Inglis Graduates

4th Apr 2008

A stakes winning treble to Champion Sire Flying Spur led another assault by William Inglis graduates on feature races at Canterbury on Saturday.

The Flying Spur trio were among four black type winners for Inglis graduates at Canterbury.

FORENSICS ($900,000 2006 Easter, 3f Flying Spur-Prove It) took her earnings to $3.3million when scoring a convincing win in the Group 1 Queen of the Turf Stakes (1550m), making it three stakes wins in succession this preparation.

Forensics is a member of the wonderful Easy Date family and this month's Easter catalogue has a number of close relations to last year's Golden Slipper winner, including: Lot 140 (Redoute's Choice-Hanky Panky); Lot 328 (More Than Ready-Regrowth); and Lot 425 (Redoute's Choice-True Blonde).

The Queen of the Turf continues the lightning-like start to 2008 for Inglis graduates, with the number of Group 1 victories now tallying eight in the New Year, following wins by Weekend Hussler (3), Shinzig, Reaan, Typhoon Zed and Juste Momente.

Earlier MENTALITY ($100,000 2005 Easter, 4g Flying Spur-Synaesthesia) and RACING TO WIN ($40,000 2004 Easter, Encosta De Lago-Surrealist) again underlined the opportunities for astute buyers when running 1-2 in the G2 Canterbury Stakes (1550m).

Both were secured for prices below the median at the respective 2005 and 2004 Easter sales.

Already a dual Group 1 winner, it was a welcome return to the winner's circle for Mentality, whose earnings are now pushing $1.7million.

Flying Spur's stakes winning spree started in the opening race when KRUPT ($450,000 2007 Easter, 2c Flying Spur-Categorical) secured a Golden Slipper berth when beating fellow Inglis graduates RELATED (P/I $350,000 2007 Easter, Elusive Quality-Cousins) and TYPHOON FURY ($70,000 2007 Classic, Hurricane Sky-Kuri Bay) in the Group 2 Todman Stakes.

Flying Spur has 30 yearlings in this month's Easter catalogue and three for the Classic Sale, which runs from April 27-29.

Prior to Forensics winning, the Ingham family had celebrated the latest black type success of improving four-year-old HOYSTAR ($400,000 2005 Easter, Danzero-Professionelle), who took out the Group 3 Nivea Visage Stakes.

In Melbourne, classy mare CONISTON GEM (P/I $10,000 2003 Premier, Greig-No Telling) added to her excellent record when taking out the Listed Anniversary Vase at Caulfield.
