Four-year-old mares return in fantastic order

Racenet - Nic Ashman - Saturday, 20 August 2011

The Chris Waller-trained Red Tracer has produced another tradesman like performance to record her first win in open age company defeating another impressive four-year-old in the Listed Toy Show Quality (1400m) at Warwick Farm on Saturday.

Red Tracer defeated the Grahame Begg-trained Secret Admirer, who turned in a slashing return after being on the sidelines for more than 10-months, with the Peter Snowden-trained Jerezana in third.

Red Tracer’s performance was typical of the lightly raced daughter of Dane Shadow and took her wonderful record to six wins and four placings from 10 starts.

"That’s the sort of performance you come to expect from her,” Waller said.

"First-up, 1300 metres on a testing track against the mares for the first time.

"She’s a very genuine racehorse, hard to fault.”

Waller said he contemplated a trip to Melbourne with Red Tracer for the Manikato Stakes at Moonee Valley on September 30 but he conceded it’s shaping up as "too hard”.

"I think we’ll go with the fillies and mares races towards the Epsom,” he said.

"She’s won over 1400 [metres] on a wet track, will get in with a nice weight.”

Secret Admirer’s trainer Grahame Begg was all smiles following the fast-finishing performance by his lightly raced Group I winner despite being beaten.

"She’s run out of her skin,” Begg said. "She’s high-class, has that X-factor.”

Begg said Secret Admirer would progress to the Tramway Handicap (1400m) which sets up a clash with Stradbroke Handicap winner Sincero at Randwick in a fortnight.

"She’s heading towards the Epsom before we look towards Melbourne,” he said.

What they said

"She's a really nice filly, I rode her like an even money favourite. She'll probabl;y get over a bit more ground” said Hugh Bowman, jockey of the winner, Red Tracer .

"She went great and will improve a lot on that,” said Brenton Avdulla, jockey of the second placegetter Secret Admirer.
