Guineas Target for Jolie Brise

Breednet - Tara Madgwick - Sunday, 27 September 2009

Fastnet Rock filly Jolie Brise has been quietly building an impressive resume and took another significant leap forward when she defeated previously unbeaten stakes-winner My Emotion at Caulfield on Sunday.

Drawn wide as was My Emotion, Jolie Brise went forward and found herself posted three-wide for much of the trip, but overcame the tough run in transit to score a powerful two length win in the 1440 metre open event for fillies.

When it was put to trainer Pat Hyland that Jolie Brise looked a very good filly, he briskly responded that it was ‘no surprise’ to him.

“She only had to keep out of trouble (to win)” he continued.

“She’ll run in the Thousand Guineas now and I think she’ll make up into an Oaks filly.”

Apprentice rider Nathan Rose has been aboard the filly at her past two wins and was delighted with her once again.

“As soon as I gave her one, she just put paid to them and had a really good turn of foot when asked,” he said.

Raced by the Frost family’s Pendant Equine Syndicate, which has enjoyed much success with high class fillies such as Zarita and Ballet Society, Jolie Brise now has the overall record of three wins and a third from five starts with prizemoney in excess of $80,000.

Bred by Vintage Bloodstock and consigned to the 2008 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale by Yarraman Park as agent, Jolie Brise was purchased by Pendant for $400,000 and is a half-sister to stakes-winner Rutherford Eagle from the Group Three winning Last Tycoon (IRE) mare Vestey.

Vestey hails from the wonderful Gypsy Moss (IRE) family that has produced a plethora of top class stakes horses, this particular branch featuring Pasta Express, Time Out, Legally Bay and Classy Fella.

The Mick Kent trained Savabeel filly My Emotion lost no admirers with her gallant second lugging 59 kg and jumping from the outside gate. She went back to last and gradually worked into the race, but undoubtedly has more to offer as the races get longer.
