Half-Sister to Phelan Ready for Inglis Classic

Magic Millions have dominated headlines during the past week with their flagship sale and spectacular race day, the feature MM Two Year Old Classic won by Phelan Ready, whose half-sister by General Nediym is catalogued for the upcoming Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

Foaled and raised at Kitchwin Hills, just like her now famous two year-old half-brother, the bay filly by General Nediym is listed as Lot 374 and is the third foal of her Group Three winning dam Nancy Eleanor.

“She’s a big scopey filly and you’d be hard pressed not to like her, especially now,” quipped Mick Malone of Kitchwin Hills.

“We’ll go home and have a good look at her and decide on her future. We sold her dam last year and now that Phelan Ready has won this race, there is the thought of hanging on to her as broodmare prospect, but at this point she is in the sale.”

Phelan Ready’s half-sister is one of seven youngsters catalogued by Kitchwin Hills for the 2009 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, three of them by their hot young sire Dane Shadow, whose yearlings sold for up to $280,000 at Magic Millions last week.

Nancy Eleanor was sold at the 2008 Magic Millions Broodmare Sale with Darrell Ible Bloodstock securing the mare on behalf of a client for $150,000 with a positive cover to Holy Roman Emperor (IRE).

She has since produced a colt from that mating and was subsequently covered by Swettenham Stud’s new sire Soldier’s Tale (USA), a Group One winning son of Stravinsky.

Also catalogued for the 2009 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale is the full sister to Denise McGrath’s brilliant speedster Keen Commander (pictured), who took his earnings to $557,035 with a scintillating victory in the $252,695 RM Williams Magic Millions Sprint at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Consigned by Wimmera Park as agent for Casson Bloodstock, the Commands filly from Bonne Bouche will be offered early in the sale as Lot 59.

To be offered at the opposite end of the catalogue is Lot 524, the half-brother to Liam Birchley’s smart two year-old Southport, winner of the $101,775 Heinrich Group Magic Millions 2YO Plate at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Offered by Bylong Park Thoroughbreds, the grey colt is by English Two Thousand Guineas winner Footstepsinthesand (GB) from terrific producer So Spectacular, the dam of six winners.
